AT least 500 of the 1,318 applicants will be accepted into the Cebu provincial government’s Paglaum scholarship program for school year 2018-2019 depending on the available budget, according to Heddah Largo of the Cebu Provincial Women’s Commission.
Largo, however, said they have yet to come up with the exact number of scholars who will be admitted into the program unless the inventory of the P10-million scholarship fund is done.
Vice Governor Agnes Magpale said that Governor Hilario Davide III agreed to add another P5 million to the P10-million budget.
“Nisugot man si gov nga pun-an og P5 million pero mangayo pami og go signal sa Provincial Budget Office (Gov has agreed to add P5 million but we still have to wait for the go signal from the Provincial Budget Office),” said Magpale in a press conference yesterday.
“Our problem now is whether to consider 500 scholars or to add more to make it 600. Anyway, whether mahinayun na naa man jud tay sigurado nga 500,” she said.
Largo explained that the beneficiaries of the program are the poor but deserving students who are not required to maintain grades, but have no failing grade in any academic subject. /CNU Intern Nikki Villagorda
