A BARANGAY councilman will face charges of illegal firearms possession after he was arrested by police at his home in Barangay Luca, Balamban town in northern Cebu at past 7 a.m. yesterday.

Maton-og Barangay Councilman Diosdado Atis was arrested by Balamban and provincial police following complaints from neighbors that he allegedly brandished and indiscriminately fired his guns.

Senior Insp. Deni Mari Pedrozo, Balamban police, said they secured a search warrant from Judge Ruben Altubar of the Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 29 in Toledo City prior to their raid.

Among the firearms recovered from Atis were one .45 pistol with no serial number, one .22 air rifle, one hand grenade and assorted ammunition.

Atis is detained at the Balamban police precinct pending the filing of charges against him.
