ABOUT 100 participants are expected to join the academic competition of the first Renaissance Cebuana event sponsored by the provincial government.

Cebu Vice Gov. Agnes Magpale, who chairs the Provincial Women’s Commission (PWC), said the first stage that consisted of five-kilometer and 10-kilometer events was joined by 757 women.

But most of them were over 30 years old and came from outside Cebu, she said.

The top 100 participants will join the second stage of competition to be held at the Cebu Trade Hall of SM City Cebu on June 23.

They will compete in a quiz bee, interview and personality check.

About 15 candidates will be chosen out of the top 50 for the final stage of the competition, a talent contest.

Participants of this 2018 Renaissance Cebuana are aged 18-30 years old and should live in Cebu for at least one year.

Magpale said she hopes the event will help promote women empowerment and rights. /CNU Intern Nikki B. Villagorda
