SUPERTYPHOON Yolanda not only suspended the 23rd Cebu City Olympics in Cebu City.

In neighboring Iloilo, the 2nd leg of the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC)-Philippine lawn Tennis Association (Philta) Visayas Junior Tennis Championships held at the La Paz Tennis Courts was also cancelled.

Philta-Mindanao Regional Vice President Juanito Cansino Jr. told Cebu Daily News on Friday that they had to postpone the matches for security reasons.

Cansino said games resumed yesterday but results were still not available since communication lines have yet to be restored in the area around Iloilo City.

A total of 105 netters are seeing action in the ongoing Philta Group 2 event and they hail from Manila, Kalibo Aklan, Bacolod and Iloilo.

This tournament, along with the third leg in Bacolod, will serve as a tune-up tournament for the players who will be competing in the coming 2013 Bacolod City Batang Pinoy National Games in Bacolod City.

The top bets in the 18-Under Girl’s division include Metro Manila’s Ma. Dominique Ong of St. Paul University-Manila, who recently saw action in the opening leg in Consolacion, Cebu where she lost to Metro Manila’s 15-year-old Erica Manduriao of the San Sebastian Stags junior tennis varsity team in their titular battle for the Girl’s 18-Under championship title.

Ong will be joined in the 18-Under Girl’s division today by Averille Sacapano, Daniel Aligaen, Mary Grace Zapanta, Angelica Suarnaba, Angeline Suarnaba, Camille Buensalido, Samantha Panganiban and Bianca Mikaela Manikan.
