The 4×4 community in the Visayas and Mindanao will gather in Cebu on September 15 to 19 for the first Cebu Eco-Trail 4×4 Challenge.
The off-road racing event will be held in the mountains of central Cebu and will cover a total distance of 275.45 kilometers that will be divided into three legs.
Organizing the event is the Jeep Owners Club of Cebu headed by its President Adrian Ray Gam.
“Our ultimate goal is to gather everyone who is involved in the 4×4 community not just in Cebu but in the Visayas and Mindanao areas,” Gam said in a press conference yesterday at the Kayu Restaurant in Lahug. “Our goal is basically to strengthen our brotherhood among 4×4 four-wheel vehicle owners.”
Gam founded the Jeep Owners Club of Cebu last January.
Part of the group’s mission is also to promote the unspoiled mountain trails of Cebu for tourism.
According to Gam, the 4×4 racing event is not limited to Jeep owners, but also four-wheel drive vehicles from different brands.
Organizers are expecting to draw around five to ten teams that will come from Cebu, other neighboring Visayas islands and from Mindanao.
The first leg will be on September 16 from the Ayala Heights grounds going to arangay Lusaran and Tagamacan. That will be a total of 103.22 kilometers.
The second leg will be on the following day from Biga Pit in Toledo City going to Mananga River and back to Ayala Heights for a total distance of 73.82 kilometers.
The final leg on September 18 will be from Asturias going to Danasan Eco Park in Danao City and back to Ayala Heights. It has a total distance of 98.41 kilometers.
The champion team will win P75,000, a plaque and special prizes from the sponsors.
Registration per team is P20,000. Each team is composed of a tag of two rigs or two 4×4 off road vehicles.
The winning team will be determined by its total accumulated time after the three legs.
