By: Inquirer.net July 29,2018 - 09:01 PM

El Nido, Palawan was placed under a state of calamity after floodwater submerged at least five of its villages.

A STATE of calamity was declared in El Nido, Palawan following the week-long heavy rains in the province.

In an advisory, the Philippine Information Agency (PIA)-Mimaropa said that families have been evacuated from their homes due to flooding.

Flooding has been reported in parts of El Nido, particularly in the villages of Villa Libertad, Bucana, Masagana, New Ibajay, and Aberawan.

Since last week, the province of Palawan has experienced continuous rains due to inclement weather. The agency said this has led to “inundation of many villages.”

The whole province of Occidental, Mindoro was also placed under the state of calamity last week due to “massive flooding” in 11 villages in Mamburao town.

The disaster and risk reduction management council of Occidental Mindoro is closely coordinating with local authorities to monitor the situation.
