An overcharged cellphone caused fire at the ancestral home of former Talisay City Councilor Danny Caballero early today at the Ma. Victoria Village in Barangay Tabunok.

Caballero said the fire also burned their bunkhouse where pigs that his mother Besing was raising.

Talisay City fire investigators pegged the damage caused by the fire at P200,000.

Initial investigation showed that the fire started at the living room of Besing’s house where one of her employed butchers was charging a cellphone at around 7 a.m.

The overcharged cellphone started to overheat and later on explode.

Caballero said that house occupants including his mother’s employees were able to escape their burning home but some of their pigs got burned in the fire.

Talisay City firefighters managed to put out the flame after 15 minutes.
