(High School)

2:30 p.m. – UV vs USC (High School)

4 p.m. – UC vs SWU (College)

THE reigning two-time champions University of the Visayas (UV) Green Lancers may have had a rough start but they are well aware that they still have plenty of time to recover. However, they must start making adjustments today when they battle the struggling Cebu Institute of Technology-University (CIT-U) Wildcats in the 2018 Cesafi men’s basketball tournament at the Cebu Coliseum.

UV is coming off a shocking 80-81 defeat at the hands of the much-improved University of Southern Philippines Foundation Panthers. The loss dropped the team to a dismal 0-2 win-loss record.

The Green Lancers get a prime shot to get a win today against a Wildcats team that just lost by 47 points to the University of San Carlos Warriors, 55-102.

UV head coach Gary Cortes, however, is urging his wards to play with a little more pride especially in the absence of lead guard Sheldon Gahi who is out indefinitely with a fractured foot, and injuries to both Bassiere Sackour and Michael Maestre.

“I just told the players to have pride for themselves, and not just give up two points that cost us the game,” said Cortes.

UV skipper Toto Segumpan lamented his team’s lack of communication on both ends of the floor.

“We’re disorganized on defense and on offense. We have a lot of miscommunications. We need to be mature enough on our remaining games,” said the Bacolod-bred two-guard.

“It’s just a bad start for us, not the ending of Cesafi. It’s a long way to go. It’s a big challenge for us,” he added.

In the other collegiate match, the University of Cebu Webmasters (2-0) will be gunning for the solo lead when they battle the Southwestern University-Phinma Cobras (1-1).

In the high school games, the CIT-U Wildkittens nabbed their second win in row with a 71-57 win over the Don Bosco Greywolves.

The twosome of Vincent Bugtai and Carlos “The President” Garcia were the biggest thorns on the side of Don Bosco as the former had 17 points and seven rebounds while the latter added 15 markers and eight rebounds.

In the second game, the University of San Jose Recoletos Baby Jaguars lambasted Southwestern University Baby Cobras, 105-58.
