Curry making most of opportunity to inspire kids
A steady of stream of fans were already making their way inside to the Mall of Asia Arena for the Steph Curry Asia Tour 2018 Powered by Under Armour.
Most of them were young kids, excitedly chatting while wearing Golden State Warriors Curry jerseys.
It just goes to show the profound impact Curry has had on the game of basketball and the next generation of players.
And it is something that he has spent time pondering on but nevertheless embraces each and every day.
“That’s a question I have been thinking about a lot. The way I play is the way that I know how to play, the way I am comfortable playing and what I have worked as far as I can remember,” said Curry during his press conference at the Kerry’s Sports in Taguig City.
The two-time MVP and three-time champion marveled at how different the NBA landscape is from what it was when he entered the league back in 2009.
“It’s unbelievable to think about how the state of the league is now versus how it was when I came into the league nearly 10 years ago. Based on just shooting the ball and shooting it at a high level. For me, it’s natural. To know that that’s impacting the next generation in terms of how they see the game of basketball, what they want to work on and how they want to play, there’s been a lot of guys that did that for me like Steve Nash and Reggie Miller, I can be that guy for the boys and girls that are playing right now. That’s special,” said Curry.
Curry then added that he will take a long and close look at what his actual impact on the game when his career is done.
“But I worry about the full scope of what that means when my career is over with, hopefully not too soon.”
Unlike summers past, this one has been a smooth one for the 30-year old.
Shortly after winning a third title in the last four seasons, Curry and wife Ayesha welcomed their first son.
He said that just being at home gave him more consistency in terms of time, which he has utilized to try and bring his game up a notch.
“This is one of the better summers in terms of consistently being in the gym and finding those new details that can take my game to the new level. This summer has been amazing and it’s nice to end it with this tour and being able to celebrate the successes of last year and looking forward to next season.”
