President Rodrigo Duterte has returned the jurisdiction of the National Food Authority (NFA) under the Department of Agriculture (DA.)

Duterte signed Executive Order No. 62 on September 17, repealing his Executive Order No. 1 in 2016, which placed the NFA under the supervision of Cabinet Secretary Leoncio “Jun” Evasco Jr.

Aside from NFA, the Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA), and Fertilizer and Pesticide Authority (FPA) were also placed back under DA.

In the same order, the President also reorganized the NFA Council, making the Secretary of Agriculture as Chairman with the NFA Administrator as Vice Chairman.

“There is a need to reorganize the NFA Council for the effective formulation and coordination of a comprehensive program for the development and promotion of efficiency and productivity in the food industry,” Duterte said in his order.

The NFA Council is the highest policy-making body of the National Food Authority (NFA).

In 2014, former President Benigno S. Aquino III transferred the supervision of NFA, PCA, FPA from DA to the Office of the President.
