Sharks beat Tigers to emerge as Elite cagefest champs
THE Sharks captured the title of the Elite Basketball Club – Cebu Season 12 after escaping past the Tigers, 91-87, last Sunday at the Visayan Glass Basketball Gym in Guadalupe, Cebu City.
The Sharks went on a 24-15 run in the third quarter to revive themselves after the first half where they were down by five, 41-46.
The Sharks then led at the start of the fourth quarter, 65-61, but the Tigers’ scoring maestro, Chris Obeso, did not make things easy for the Sharks to get away with the title as he poured in 10 points to steer his team in that closing period.
But the balanced productiveness of the Sharks which they used in staging that third quarter spurt was again key for them in the fourth as the duo of Paul Salarda and Niño Belande exploded with each scoring eight points.
Belande took home the Finals MVP honors after netting 16 points, while Salarda, John Cabahug, and Prince Malana added 15, 14, and 13, respectively.
Big man Jefford Aldave led the Tigers in scoring with his 20 points while Obeso contributed 17. Joel Bensig also helped as he chipped in 16 markers.
