THE Lapu-Lapu City government, in coordination with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, marked the observance of National Family Week 2018 that opened last September 24 at the Hoops Dome.

Hundreds of participants from the different barangays of Lapu-Lapu City and members of the church gathered for the celebration.

The event highlighted an inspirational talks on how to strengthen family ties with a topic titled “Family Time” by Bishop James Fantone, “Father: The Protector in the Home” by Roy Baculio, and “Be a good example in the home” by Brother Randie Pino.

Mayor Paz Radaza, in her speech, urged the Oponganons to value family relationship and be a good example to everyone starting in their own community. “We will surely have peace of mind and peace in our community if we all take care of our families,” said the mayor.

Baculio, president of Mandaue Philippines Stake, said the church’s teachings are family-centered based on the gospel of Jesus Christ.

The National Committee on the Filipino Family (NCFF) chaired by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) calls on all families nationwide to join various activities to celebrate National Family Week from September 23 to 29.

The celebration aimed to increase awareness on various family issues, enhance effectiveness of national and local efforts to carry out specific programs concerning families, and promote collaboration among national and local non-governmental organizations in support of multi-sectoral activities.

The theme for this year’s celebration is “Tungo sa Maginhawa, Matatag, at Panatag na Pamilyang Pilipino,” which envisions better initiatives to strengthen the Filipino family in the new generation.
