Poe calls the two as progressive, clean leaders who are good symbols for Cebu

The tandem of Vice Gov. Agnes Magpale and Gov. Hilario Davide III for the 2019 midterm elections got a major boost on Saturday after it was endorsed by reelectionist Senator Grace Poe.

Poe was in Cebu to witness the signing of the Memorandum of Agreement between the Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC) and fifth district’s dominant party, Barug Alang sa Kauswagan ug Demokrasya (Bakud).

Poe, though running as an independent, is “adopted” and supported by NPC.

“I am here to throw my support for the candidates of NPC and Bakud. I have seen the quality of service from these leaders that is why it is very easy to come here and express my support for them,” the senator said.

Progressive, good symbols of Cebu

Poe added that Magpale and Davide are progressive leaders and good symbols of Cebu.

“I have known Gov. Davide for so long. He is a very kind governor, very progressive, respectful and a good symbol for Cebu,” Poe said.

“And Vice Governor Magpale, who is now running for governor, we need a mother figure who is very progressive and has a very clean record,” she added.

Yesterday’s event reaffirmed the commitment of Bakud and NPC to support each other’s local and national candidates in the 2019 midterm polls.

The agreement was signed by Bakud Secretary General Jose Thaddeus Roble and Bakud President Joseph Felix Mari “Ace” Durano.

Aside from Poe, Bakud chairman emeritus and Danao City Mayor Ramon “Nito” Durano III, NPC Provincial Chairman and fifth district Rep. Ramon “Red” Durano VI, Davide and Magpale also witnessed the signing.

Magpale is allied with Bakud and NPC while Davide has opted to stay with the Liberal Party, his national party when he was first elected governor in 2013.

In turn, Bakud party also committed to support the candidacy of NPC senatorial candidates next year.

They are reelectionist Senators Poe, JV Ejercito, Cynthia Villar and Sonny Angara; Ilocos Governor Imee Marcos; and actor Lito Lapid.

Of the six NPC candidates, only Poe made it to the alliance signing since the five others had other prior commitment, said Rep. Durano.

Rep. Durano said the signing of the MOA only reinforces the strength of their party and its ties with NPC.

After the alliance signing held at the Durano residence, the group proceeded to the Danao Civic and Cultural Center for the formal presentation of all the Bakud candidates.
