A Police officer was shot dead by an unidentified assailant outside an auto shop in Barangay Calajo-an, Minglanilla town, Cebu on November 14, Wednesday morning.

Police identified the victim as PO2 Lord Cañada, who succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds on his body.

According to Police Supt. Janette Rafter, Information officer of the Cebu Provincial Police Office (CPPO), Cañada was about to ride a multicab together Ken Echavez, his brother-in-law, after visiting an auto shop when the assailant peppered the police officer with bullets causing his immediate death.

“Cañada and his brother-in-law were about to ride a multicab after visiting an auto shop to get his car fixed when the incident happened,” said Rafter.

Rafter said that the suspect immediately fled the scene.

Police declared the victim as dead on the spot while his brother-in-law was rushed to the hospital after he was injured.

Cañada was assigned at the Minglanilla Police Station but was transferred to Police Regional Office (PRO-7) in 2016, she added.

The police are now looking into the CCTV in the area to identify the suspects and also conducting an investigation to determine the cause of the attack.
