BEACH VOLLEY IS ON

By: Ray Charlie Diaz November 30,2018 - 10:09 PM

Cesafi beach volleyball defending champions will begin their title retention bid as they see action in the opening games of the 2018 Cesafi beach volleyball competition which comes off wraps today at the Fort San Pedro.

It will be like a rematch as the girls defending champion University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) will face runner-up University of Southern Philippines Foundation while in the boys division, USPF will also go up against a familiar foe in University of Cebu (UC).

Last season, USJ-R’s Krizzia Caasi and Shantal Rodriguez defeated USPF’s Tracy Cortes and Maria Tes Gloria, 21-19, 21-10, for the title.

For this season, USJ-R has put its trust in Krizzia again, this time, alongside Chriszelle Caasi and Nicole Ruela Del Campo for its title defense.

USPF, on the other hand, will field the same lineup with the addition of Vanessa Miñoza.

In the boys division last year, the USPF tandem of Menchel Remulta and Edmar Malata clinched the title by ruling over UC’s Joshua Su Rillos and Axel Abatayo, 21-17, 21-13.

This season, USPF will be fielding a new lineup in Amil Pacinio Jr., Ian Kym Jumandos and Zander Jude Ybañez.

UC, on the other hand, has not yet revealed its bets.

Other games in the boys division will be between University of San Carlos (USC) and Ateneo; USJ-R versus Cebu Institute of Technology-University (CIT-U) and USJ-R against Ateneo.

In the distaff side, UC will also go up against USC for its second game of the day.

Also much awaited is the men’s division champion University of the Visayas (UV) who will open its campaign against CIT-U, who is also scheduled to take on Southwestern University (SWU)- Phinma.

In the women’s division, runner-up USJ-R will face USPF and UC; while other games will see Cebu Doctors’ University (CDU) going up against UC and CIT-U to face USC.

The first game starts at 8 a.m. at the Fort San Pedro.
