Tumulak: Regulating apartments is anti-poor

Anti-poor.

This was how Cebu City Councilor Dave Tumulak described proposals to regulate apartments and other leased residential properties.

He said that if the government will require renters to submit additional requirements such as police clearance, it will cause burden to the public.

Tumulak, who is also the Deputy Mayor for Police Matter also said that if the council will pass an ordinance regulating the apartments, it will take time and may not help solve the drug problem immediately.

He suggests that the barangay units should be more vigilant in monitoring drug personalities in the area.

He also suggested to strengthen the Barangay Anti-Drug Abuse Council to counter illegal drug activities in the villages in the city.

On Sunday, Vice Mayor Edgardo Labella said he will request the Cebu City Council to draft an ordinance or resolution to regulate apartments in the City since drug personalities were allegedly using these apartments as hideouts.
