The University of the Visayas (UV) Green Lancers are headed to the national collegiate championship after they swept the Naga College Foundation Tigers with an 89-72 victory in Game Two of the best-of-three series in the Philippine Regional Championship of the 2018 Philippine Collegiate Champions League on Friday afternoon at the Arcadia Active Lifestyle Center in Davao City.
Unlike Game One, wherein the three-time defending Cesafi champions struggled to shake off the Luzon/NCR regional champion, the Green Lancers’ marksmen were on point and so were their defense, which allowed UV to pull off the title-clinching win.
“We were able to hit our outside shots and our defense worked well. Those were huge reasons why we were able to get this title,” said a victorious Gary Cortes, head coach of UV, after the game.
The championship also placed UV in the finals, where they will be taking on either the UAAP champions Ateneo de Manila University or the NCAA rulers, San Beda, with that game set for January 21 in Manila.
“We’ll do our very best to give them a good fight,” said Cortes.
