H&G Gina Go, Journey to Recovery snatch victories in Duterte hoops

Cebu City, Philippines — H&G Gina Go and Journey to Recovery continue to lord it over the rest of the field as they snatched wins over their respective opponents in the Duterte Basketball League on Sunday, March 31, 2019, at the Capitol Parish Gym.

H&G blew out JEPS Merchandise, 64-50, to hike its win-loss record up to 6-0. 

Allan Sala helped H&G cruise to the win with his 23 points while Noel Canedo pumped in 19 of his own.

Journey to Recovery also kept in step with the league leader as it got its fifth win in six games after routing NJEB Construction, 96-67. 

Nelson Peralta diced up NJEB’s defense to the tune of 26 points while Nino Malicay backed him up with 14 markers.

The defending champions Lycans and Penthel also kept their bid for slots in the Final Four intact with the former destroying HLT&JDC, 80-52, while the latter trounced Evo, 95-76.

John Velasco led the Lycans with 19 points while Rexon Moneva added 14. 

Former University of Southern Philippines Foundation stud James Ferraren led Penthel with 25 points while athletic wingman Biboy Potencioso put up 20.

The Lycans and Penthel both hold identical 4-2 records. 

Meanwhile, the Sherilin Warriors remained in the hunt for a spot in the semifinals after slipping past Paragsa, 58-53. 

The win gave the team of businessman Richard Mercado an even 3-3 slate.

Mike Cantonao led the way for the team composed of ex-Warriors players, with 12 points. /bmjo
