CEBU CITY, Philippines — Cebu City Councilor Dave Tumulak, deputy mayor on police matters, called on the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the barangay tanods to conduct more patrols at night to deter robbers.

“Alarming na ning nahitabo nga sunod-sunod nga pagpanulis ug pagpatay sa mga bikitma. (This series of robberies are alarming especially with the killing of the victims),” said Tumulak.

He encouraged the public to be more vigilant following the death of a graduating student on Friday night, March 29, after being shot along Tres de Abril street in Barangay Labangon, Cebu City by robbers on board a motorcycle.

Tumulak said that robbers would seem to no longer have the fear to kill especially at night or dawn.

Early on Tuesday, April 2, a bakery in Barangay Punta Princessa was also robbed and the female attendant, Liezel Luang, 29, was injured after the robber stabbed her with an icepick.

Luang is recuperating at the Cebu City Medical Center following the incident.

“We urge the police and the tanods to be more vigilant. We also urge the public to be more vigilant because this is no longer usual that robbers would not be hesitant to kill,” said Tumulak.

Tumulak also warned the public against “akyat-bahay” or robbers breaking into houses especially since many of the houseowners would be going on vacation this summer.

“Kinahanglan na gyod magtinabangay ang katawhan aron masugpo na ni sila. (The people should work together to stop the series of robberies),” said Tumulak./dbs
