CEBU CITY, Philippines – Ilaya Barangay Councilor Ramil Abueva went out for his early morning groceries on Sunday, April 7, but he no longer made it home to his family alive.

Abueva, 45, was killed in an ambush at the vicinity of Sitio Tab-ang, Purok Saging, located just a few meters away from his home in Purok Mangga at past 7 a.m. today.

A trisikad driver who happened to be in the area during the ambush was also hit by a stray bullet on his neck.

Magno Porgatorio, 25, was brought to the Barili District Hospital for the treatment of his wound before he was transferred to the Don Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center in Cebu City.

Police Captain Rodgene Fudotan, chief of the Ronda Police Station, said that Abueva was travelling onboard his motorcycle from the public market to his home in Purok Mangga when he was waylaid by passengers of a gray colored car.

Sensing danger, Fudotan said that Abueva tried to make a u-turn, but he was already fired at by the still unidentified gunman.

A witness told Cebu Daily News Digital that Abueva tried to jump from his motorcycle but was peppered with bullets by his attacker.  Abueva sustained bullets wounds on the different parts of his body which caused his immediate death.

Fudotan said they are still to determine the caliber of the firearm that was used on Abueva.

Police investigators are also yet to determine the motive of the attack, but Fudotan assured that they will look into all possible angles to ensure the immediate resolution of the Ilaya Councilors ambush. /dcb
