NCIP to give financial assistance to 54 graduating Badjao students in Cebu

CEBU CITY, Philippines — About 54 Badjao graduating students will receive educational assistance from the National Commission on Indigenous People (NCIP).

Hazel Torrefiel, NCIP head, said that they would provide P5,000 worth of educational assistance for elementary and junior high school graduating students in Alaska Elementary School and Don Carlos A. Gothong Memorial High School.

The agency has also coordinated with the Cebu City government and MSN Foundation (Cherry Mobile) Scholarship for the school supplies and uniforms for at least 100 Badjao students in Alaska Elementary School.

Aside from that, the NCIP has also provided P10,000 worth of assistance for Badjao students who are taking up review classes for  the Teacher Licensure Examination. 

Torrefiel said that to provide proper education to indigenous brother and sisters had been the primary concern of the NCIP.

The NCIP also provides medical, financial, livelihood and legal assistance to Badjao community and Ati Tribe in Naga City. /dbs
