Cebu City, Philippines — Medellin joined Mandaue City at the top after they edged the homecourt-toting Danao City, 90-88, in the quarterfinals of the 2019 Governor’s Cup basketball tournament on Saturday, April 13, 2019, over at the Danao City Civic Center.

Four different players scored in double-figures for Medellin led by Fritz Saladaga, who exploded for 31 points, 12 coming in a pivotal fourth period stretch.

Medellin and Mandaue City are now tied at the top of the standings of Bracket A, with similar 2-0 win-loss records.

Diminutive but feisty guard Gelmart Umpad added 18, Luthek Leonard put up 15 while Roland Canales chipped in 12 to help Medellin ruin Danao’s homecourt stand.

University of Cebu (UC) Baby Webmasters’ ace Justine Mondares scored 18 points to lead the way for Danao City.

Meanwhile, the quarterfinals games in Bracket B continue on Sunday afternoon, April 14, with a three-game slate at Tabuelan. /bmjo
