CEBU CITY, Philippines – At least five establishments, most of which are food stalls, in a food strip in Barangay Poblacion in Badian town of southwestern Cebu were gutted down by a late evening fire on Tuesday, April 16, 2019.

Fire investigators are still trying to determine the cause of the fire, and the extent of the damage.

Initial findings, however, showed that the flames originated from one of the stalls in Badian’s food strip, which is located along the national highway in Barangay Poblacion.

Badian is a third-class municipality located 104 kilometers southwest of Cebu City.

The fire spread to nearby establishments, which included a burger shop, a famous cake store, a bakery, and a house owned by Roberto Librando.

Firefighters from Moalboal Fire Station, the neighboring town of Badian, received the alarm at 8:35 p.m. The fire was placed under control an hour later at 9:38 p.m.

They officially declared a fire out at 12:30 midnight on Wednesday, April 17.

Seven fire trucks and over 20 firefighters from the towns of Alcantara, Alegria, Dumanjug, Malabuyoc, and Moalboal helped in putting out the fire. /bmjo
