CEBU CITY, Philippines — A former boxer landed in the hospital after he was hit by a stray bullet in Sitio Kawayan, Barangay Sambag 2 in Cebu City on the afternoon of Black Saturday, April 20.

Tirso dela Peña, 39, of Sitio Riverside, B. Rodriguez Street in Barangay Sambag 2, was hit on the right side of the head by a stray bullet fired by a handgun from one of two men arguing beside the victim’s house, said Police Major Eduard Sanchez, Abellana Police Precinct chief, in an interview with CDN Digital.

The suspect, Dodong “Insik” Cascabel was believed to be a former resident of Barangay Sambag 2 but is currently living in Barangay Calamba or Barangay Mambaling, said Sanchez.

Investigation showed that Larry Mabulay, 18, was slapped by Cascabel during an argument.

When Reynaldo Mabulay, 53, Larry’s father, went to help his son and confront Cascabel, the latter pulled out a .45 pistol and shot Reynaldo.

Reynaldo managed to dive to the ground and avoid the bullet fired from Cascabel’s pistol.

However, the bullet went through the wall of Dela Peña’s house, hitting Dela Peña, who was inside the house at that time, in the head.

Cascabel then fled after the shooting while Dela Peña was rushed to the hospital for treatment.

Police were still looking for the suspect, who has remained at large./dbs
