CEBU CITY, Philippines — Juanito Ranghos was driving a truck a few minutes past 6 p.m. on Thursday, May 2, 2019, from Balamban town to Asturias town when he suddenly heard two gun shots out of nowhere.
A few minutes later, he felt sharp pain on the left part of his body just below his armpit.
Ranghos, 40 and a resident of Barangay Bairan in Asturias town, realized that a bullet had hit him.
Ranghos maintained presence of mind and continued driving despite the pain.
A few meters ahead, Ranghos saw a chapel filled with people. He decided to stop and seek for their help.
Police Sergeant Excel Agwanta, desk officer of Balamban Police Station, said the incident happened in Sitio Lingatong, Barangay Vito in Balamban town.
He said Ranghos even spent a few minutes inside the chapel to pray for divine intervention so that he may live.
After which, Ranghos asked one of the villagers with a motorcyle to bring him to the police station to report the incident.
Agwanta said they advised Ranghos to head straight to the hospital for immediate treatment.
Agwanta said they are still investigating the incident as Ranghos himself did not see the person who shot him.
Ranghos was hit on his left arm pit and the bullet went through his back.
The victim is currently recovering in a hospital. / celr
