Cebu City, Philippines—Some of the top cyclists of Cebu are expected to compete in the Cebu Epic 2019, which will be held in the mointain barangays of Cebu and Toledo City on June 9, 2019.

Chyrel Gomez, Cebu Epic Race Organizer, told CDN Digital in a private message that the race has now attracted 120 participants, among them are ‘big names’ in Cebu cycling.

“By big names, I mean Niño Surban, Joseph Miller, Dongkey Sanchez,” Gomez said. “They’re racing under open category in full epic.”

Aside from the top local cyclists, Gomez also revealed that the race will include foreign participants.

“We have riders coming from UK, Singapore, and from neighboring islands…like Bohol, Negros, Surigao, Davao, Cagayan de Oro.” she added.

The Cebu Epic 2019 is a cross country marathon mountain bike race.

This event is organized by one of Cebu’s local cycling team, Team Big Ring Race and Adventure. Parts of the proceeds goes to the team’s annual medical mission, Operation Tuli.

The organizers have closed the registration for the race since they have exceeded their expected number of participants.

“We’re now at 120 teams. And we’re closing the registration earlier than May 15, 2019, moving it to May 3, 2019 to ensure we can cover all the riders in terms of safety, logistics, trail traffic, and crowd control,” Gomez explained. /bmjo
