Triathlon fever is on again in Cebu with the much awaited Vaseline Men Xterra Philippines happening this Saturday in Lilo-an town, north Cebu.

After three successful years, Sunrise Events Inc. and the municipality of Lilo-an are gunning for another impressive staging of the country’s biggest off-road triathlon with more than a dozen nationalities represented.

According to Sunrise Events project director Princess Galura, the secret of the race’s success is the all-out support from the municipal government of Lilo-an led by mayor Vincent Franco “Duke” Frasco.

“Xterra is officially open here in Cebu. The expo and the claiming of race packs already started in Crimson Hotel in Mactan. The race course is also open for the participants to practice so the festive atmosphere of triathlon is definitely back and we are very thankful for the huge support given to us by Mayor Frasco and the people of Lilo-an,” Galura said.

Galura said that all stops have been covered for the race which starts at 6 a.m. featuring the pro and Filipino elite divisions, the Xterra Lite and relay categories that will start at the Sea Front Beach Resort and finish at the Lilo-an Central Elementary School.

RACE TO PROCEED RAIN OR SHINE

Galura also said that they are hoping for a sunny weather this weekend. “But regardless of the weather we are prepared,” she said.
Around a hundred marshalls and Lilo-an’s very own enforcers will ensure the safety of the more than 400 participants joining the race this year.

Traffic as usual is expected to be heavy along the national highway near Sea Front but Galura urged everyone to be a little more patient since the race is only held once a year.

Galura also added that the claiming of race packs and the Xterra expo are already open at the Crimson Hotel in Mactan where the much awaited meet-and-greet with the pro racers will happen today at 3 p.m. Also, the race course in Lilo-an is already open for those who want to practice.

Meanwhile, the most awaited unveiling of the finishers medal will be held today as Galura vowed to surprise this year’s racers with its unique design.
