PBA dedicates opening to storm survivors

By: Brian J. Ochoa November 15,2013 - 09:54 PM

PBA COMMISSIONER Chito Salud said the league will be dedicating its opening ceremony for the upcoming Philippine Cup to the victims of supertyphoon “Yolanda.”

The PBA will start its 39th season tomorrow with three games in three separate venues around the country with the Barangay Ginebra and 2013 PBA Governor’s Cup champion San Mig Coffee playing at the Smart Araneta Coliseum and the Alaska Aces going up against Rain or Shine Elasto Painters in Davao City’s USEP Gym. Talk ‘N Text will also face Meralco here in Cebu.

“We will dedicate our simple opening rites to all of our kababayans who were affected by ‘Yolanda,'” Salud said in a press statement. “We want them to know that they are in our prayers and that the PBA will continue to be of help to them in the long road to normalcy.”

The commissioner also made it clear that pushing through with the games doesn’t mean the league is being insensitive. “The ferocity of competition they will see on opening day will in no way be reflective of our lack of understanding of what truly matters in life and sympathy for those impacted. Rather, it will be a showcase of the brave hearts of our players who all want to serve as inspiration to our countrymen at this time.”
