Bulletin publisher, Yap dies at 88

Philippine Daily Inquirer April 08,2014 - 08:29 AM

Manila Bulletin Publishing Corp. chairman Emilio T. Yap,  passed away  yesterday.

Yap passed away a day before Manila Bulletin was to hold its annual thanksgiving party for clients and advertisers at Puerta Real in Intramuros, Manila prompting the newspaper to cancel the event.

Manila Bulletin confirmed Yap’s demise in a disclosure to the Philippine Stock Exchange yesterday.

In a separate statement, the newspaper said funeral services would be announced later. The cause of death was not disclosed.

Yap, who had led the board of Manila Bulletin since 1984, also chaired the Manila Hotel Corp. and Centro Escolar University and was likewise chair emeritus of Philippine Trust Co.

As a symbol of his concern for newspapermen and newspaperwomen, he constructed a medical center building at the National Press Club of the Philippines.
