2 dead, 3 injured in Metro Cebu

Two died and three were injured in separate shooting and stabbing incidents in Metro Cebu over the weekend.

A 38-year-old man was shot by a lone gunman while walking in barangay Poblacion 2 in Carcar City Saturday.

Demosthenes Mabitad was rushed to Carcar Provincial Hospital but died a few minutes later of a fatal gunshot wound in the head.

Police are checking if the attack was drug related as the victim was allegedly involved in the illegal drug trade.

In barangay Mabolo, Cebu City, Rex Cincoflores, 38, was stabbed after a heated argument with his companion.

Residents of Sitio Lahing-lahing told police that they heard Cincoflores and his companion arguing.

Then the victim shouted, “Ayaw bay, ayaw bay”.

A few minutes later, he was found sprawled on an alley. SPO4 Alex Dacua, homicide investigator, said that a blue ball cap and a slipper, believed to belong to the attacker, were left in the area.

No one from among the residents came forward to give their testimony.

Investigators have yet to establish the motive of the attack.

In Argao town, a 36-year-old man is in serious condition after he was shot by an unidentified man while heading home after attending a benefit dance Sunday dawn.

Eugene Cornejo, of barangay Poblacion sustained three gunshot wounds and is confined in a hospital in Cebu City.

Police believe Cornejo was a victim of bullying.

Another 36-year-old man is in critical condition after he was stabbed by his neighbor in barangay Bangkal, Lapu-Lapu City Sunday evening.

Wendell Silawan, was rushed to Lapu-Lapu City Hospital while the suspect, a certain Aquilino, fled.

The two reportedly had a verbal tussle that resulted in the stabbing.
Police said the attack could be due to a personal grudge.

In barangay Pakna-an, Mandaue City, 34-year-old police asset landed in the hospital after he was shot by two unidentified men on a pink motorcycle Sunday evening.

Elvis Gomez was brought to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center due to a gunshot wound in his upper leg.

Gomez was with a friend sitting on a bench by the roadside when the attackers on board a motorcycle slowed down and fired several shots at him.

Gomez was able to run but he was hit in the leg.

Police are considering that the attack is in connection to the information that the victim gave the police which resulted in the arrest of some drug personalities. The attackers who were wearing helmets sped off and remain unidentified.
