VSMMC: 5 healthcare workers under quarantine
CEBU CITY, Philippines – Some healthcare workers at the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC) are placed under home quarantine, latest report from the hospital states.
VSMMC issued its latest hospital statistics on Thursday, April 2, 2020, showing that five of their health were placed under isolation.
However, the report did not provide further details on the matter.
Meanwhile, the hospital’s administration disclosed to the public that two coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) patients are now admitted in their facility.
No fatalities were reported from the hospital so far.
Health workers who are exposed to COVID-19 patients, or showing symptoms while treating those suspected of having the disease, are placed under quarantine as part of a health facility’s containment measures.
VSMMC also disclosed that as of April 1, 2020, 24 individuals suspected of having the disease or those with severe acute respiratory infection (SARI) are now admitted there.
Meanwhile, at least six people with mild symptoms of influenza-like illnesses (ILIs) were consulted to VSMMC.
Tests
Aside from treating individuals who are positive of COVID-19 and those who are suspected of having it, VSMMC serves as a sub-national level laboratory that conducts COVID-19 tests.
As of April 1, 2020, the hospital was able to do tests from 495 samples. Most of these samples, or 442 out of 495, were specimens from Central Visayas.
VSMMC’s COVID-19 testing laboratory also caters to Eastern Visayas, Northern Mindanao, and Caraga regions.
Of the 495 samples tested at the hospital, 35 yielded positive of the virus while the rest were negative.
They also added that they are awaiting results of 54 samples tested in their laboratory.
“The Department of Health Regional Centers for Health Development shall issue the detailed results for positive or negative cases,” VSMMC stated. /bmjo
