SWU eyes semis seat, faces JRU

By: Jonas N. Panerio June 02,2014 - 12:50 PM

The Southwestern University (SWU) Cobras gun for a spot in the semifinals today when they take on a familiar foe in the face of the Jose Rizal University (JRU) Heavy Bombers, in the quarterfinals of the Filoil Flying V Hanes Premier Cup at the Arena in San Juan City.

SWU is ranked third after finishing in first place in Group A with a 5-1 (win-loss) card at the end of the elimination round.

Game time is set at 2 p.m. against a foe that SWU has gotten acquainted with this summer.

The Cobras already have JRU’s number after beating them three times in the last two months, including a 72-68 victory in their lone encounter in this tournament.

Their most notorious match happened in a tournament in Minglanilla, Cebu, where the two teams engaged in a near free-for-all sparked by a skirmish between the Cobras’ Daryl Goloran and the Heavy Bombers’ King Benemerito.

The rest of the quarterfinal pairings will see Centro Escolar University taking on Lyceum while Far Eastern University battles La Salle. National University will also take on San Beda.
