Ma, 4 kids survive ‘tornado’

A MOTHER and her four children were awakened when what they believed to be a tornado toppled a big tree and fell on their house in Pangan-an Island, Lapu-Lapu City past 4 a.m. yesterday.

Gina Medalla, 40, and her four children had to crawl out to the open field for safety. Fortunately, all of them were unharmed.

Gina’s husband, Robert, was out in the sea fishing when the incident happened.

Gina said they heard the strong winds outside prior to the falling of the ‘Kolis’ tree.

It was fortunate that the children slept with their mother in the room because it was their room that was severely damaged.

The family’s house was made of concrete and light materials.

They said the tree was already there when they built their house 20 years ago.
