CEBU CITY, Philippines — Another policeman assigned at the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO), who tested positive for coronavirus disease 2019, passed away on Friday.

Police Colonel Cydric Earl Tamayo, officer-in-charge of CCPO, confirmed to CDN Digital this Saturday morning, June 20, 2020, that the officer who used to be assigned at the CCPO investigation department, died at around 9 p.m. on Friday while admitted in a hospital in the city.

However, Tamayo said that he is yet to confirm the actual cause of his death.

“COVID ang cause sa iya pagkahospital. Amo gi hulat ang iya death certificate,” Tamayo told CDN Digital.

(He was brought to the hospital due to COVID-19. But we are still awaiting the release of his death certificate.)

The investigator was already CCPO’s third fatality from the deadly virus in less than a week.  The two others, who were assigned at the PNP Crime Laboratory and the Crisis Response Battalion Team, died just hours apart on June 14.

Just like one of the two earlier fatalities, the police investigator was admitted to the hospital on June 10 after he experienced breathing difficulty and coughing.

His swab test result showing that he was positive for the infection was released three days later.

Tamayo said that he is now coordinating with the family of the late police officer to especially facilitate his cremation in the next 12 hours.  His family will also be getting benefits from the Philippine National Police (PNP). / dcb
