CEBU CITY, Philippines — The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) is temporarily suspending the implementation of the no-face shield, no-ride policy in public land transport.

LTFRB-7 Regional Director Eduardo Montealto Jr. said the requirement is put on hold first pending the release of further guidelines.

“Duna may memorandum circular nga nigawas, 2020-031, compulsory wearing of face shield. Suspended ang implementation,” Montealto told CDN Digital.

(There was a Memorandum Circular that was issued, 2020-031, on the compulsory wearing of face shield. The implementation is suspended for the meantime.)

The Department of Transportation, where LTFRB is an attached agency, issued a memorandum circular on August 3 directing the mandatory wearing of face shields for all passengers in public transport effective August 15.

But the LTFRB Central Office, in its Memorandum Circular no. 2020-031 dated August 1, ordered that the wearing of face shields be mandatory effective immediately upon its publication.

“Okay pa karon nga dili mag-face shield ang mga pasahero. Temporarily suspended usa ang implementation until further notice by the DOTr,” Montealto said.

(It is still okay for now for the passengers not to wear face shields. The implementation of the policy is suspended until further notice by the DOTr.)

In sea transport, meanwhile, Cebu Port Authority will be implementing the ‘no-face shield, no-ride’ policy on August 15. /bmjo
