About P184.7 million in funds will be allocated to local government units (LGUs) in Central Visayas as part of the national government’s Supplementary Feeding Program for indigent children.

Regional Director Mercedita Jabagat of the Department of Social Welfare and Development in Central Visayas (DSWD-7) said they’ve listed 153,996 indigent children beneficiaries in Cebu.

The amount will be used to purchase viands while P46.1 million will be allocated to the National Food Authority in Central Visayas (NFA-7) to buy rice for the once-a-day, five days-a-week meal to be served to indigent children in day-care centers.

The government set aside a P13-daily meal budget per child of which P10 is spent for the viand and P3 for rice.   Cooking utensils are also budgeted at P1,000 per day-care center and P75 for a child’s eating utensils.

The feeding program which started three years ago will be assisted by the parents based on a prepared meal cycle using available indigenous food supplies.
