CEBU CITY, Philippines — People who are experiencing flu-like symptoms should have themselves get tested to immediately know if they have contracted the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19).

And if they do prove positive to the virus, they will have lesser chances of infecting others because of immediate isolation.

“Based on our COVID (cluster) clinic data, from September to December last year, there is a 3.89% chance that a person with flu-like symptoms is positive for covid.”

“However, just this month, a client who is symptomatic is more than half of the time (52.46%) positive for covid. This tells us that testing symptomatic clients for covid is more important now, more than ever, for early detection, isolation, and treatment,” said Councilor Joel Garganera, the deputy chief implementor of the Emergency Operations Center (EOC).

The EOC is urging those with flu-like symptoms to undergo a check-up at the cluster clinics so they will be tested for free.

People with flu-like symptoms must also treat themselves as COVID-positive even if they have not been tested or are waiting for the results of their test.

This means that they must stay in isolation and ensure the use of personal protective equipment when travelling to the cluster clinics.

“First, is to treat yourself as if you have Covid, aron at all times compliant ka sa maong health protocol aron malikayan nga ikaw makatakod sa uban labi na sa mga vulnerable. Mga timailhan nga naa kay Covid, mag manifest ka ug flu like symptoms, na exposed ka sa usa positive individual, or gikan ka sa lugar nga naay nagpositibo or nagpa test ka for other purposes sama sa travel o trabaho,” said Garganera.

On February 17, 2021, the city has once again recorded more than 200 new cases of the COVID-19 reaching up to 245. This results to a total of 2,688 active cases.

However, it must be noted that the new recoveries are reaching three digits as well now at 158. The EOC hopes the recoveries will continue to rise so the active cases would eventually fall. /rcg
