Archbishop Palma is COVID-19 positive

CEBU CITY, Philippines — Cebu Archbishop Jose Palma has proven positive to the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). 

The Archdiocese of Cebu has released a statement saying that the archbishop is in stable condition in a hospital in Cebu City. 

“The Archdiocese of Cebu wishes to inform the faithful that Archbishop Jose S. Palma tested positive for COVID last night. He is now under medical care at Perpetual Succour Hospital,” said Monsignor Joseph Tan, the spokesperson of the Archdiocese.

“The people who have been in close contact with the Archbishop have also been informed about the matter.  The  Archbishop remains in a stable condition. Let us all pray for his steady and speedy recovery,” Monsignor Tan said.

Palma celebrated Ash Wednesday with his household at the Archbishop’s Place in Cebu City. 

According to Tan, all contacts of the archbishop will be contact traced today and they have remained in isolation. 

Tan also encouraged the faithful to pray for the swift recovery of Archbishop Palma from COVID-19./dbs
