CEBU CITY, Philippines—The Tubigon-Bohol Mariners officially joined the roster of teams competing in the Pilipinas VisMin Super Cup’s Visayas leg, which kicks off on April 9, 2021, in Alcantara town, southwestern Cebu.

The Mariners join a 6-team lineup in the Visayas leg of this professional basketball tournament for the Visayas and Mindanao.

The Mariners will bank on a roster led by Leo Avenido, James Mangahas, and Pari Llagas.

Avenido, the ASEAN Basketball League (ABL) MVP in 2012 and 2013, is known to be ABL’s former all-time leading scorer. However, his record was surpassed in 2018 by Justin Howard of Chong Son Kung Fu Basketball Club. The Alaska Aces originally drafted Avenido in the 2002 PBA Draft.

Meanwhile, Llagas, a product of University of the East (UE) Red Warriors, was drafted in 2010 by the B-Meg Derby Ace in PBA and continued his career with the Sarangani Marlins and Muntinlupa Cagers in the MPBL.

Mangahas, meanwhile, is best remembered for his part in the 2007 UAAP championship title run of the De LaSalle University (DLSU) Green Archers. He also played for the Makati Skyscrapers and the Biñan City Heroes.

The Mariners’ complete roster has yet to be announced as of this posting.

The other teams competing in the Pilipinas VisMin Super League’s Visayas leg are MJAS-Zenith Talisay City Aquastars, KCS-Mandaue City Megabytes, ARQ Builders-Lapu-Lapu City Heroes, XUR Homes Realty-Eastern Samar, and Danao City.
