CCSC reopening: Management lays down rules for using track oval

CEBU CITY, Philippines — As the management of the Cebu City Sports Center sees its reopening on May 3 as its way of slowly getting back on its feet, it also lays down the ground rules to keep the facility open during this time of the pandemic.
In an interview with CDN Digital, CCSC’s Manager Jundel Bontuyan is very optimistic about the reopening the CCSC’s eight-lane rubberized track oval after it has been closed for 14 months due to the pandemic.
Bontuyan, however, this early has appealed to those who planned to run or walk at the track oval to follow the health and safety protocols that they would be imposing.
Face shield
This included the mandatory wearing of a face shield on the oval.
He said that he had read dozens of complaints from their Facebook page post about the health and safety protocols imposed inside the facility once it would re-open.

He clarified that those who use the oval would only be required to wear a face shield, and it would be up to them if they would want to wear a face mask or not on the oval.

Bontuyan also appealed to the Cebuanos to understand that they were only following the orders of the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) and the PNP and, above all, to prevent the spreading of COVID-19.
He said that wearing both a face shield and face mask would only result in suffocation. Thus, they would only require everyone to wear a face shield on the oval.
“Nakabasa bitaw mi sa mga reklamo pero ako gihangyo tanan nga maayo unta nga mosabot lang unta sila karon kay igo ra sad mi nisunod sa rules sa IATF ug sa PNP. If dili ni nato masunod unya makita nila, mapasirad-an ra pud ta ug balik,” said Bontuyan.
(I have heard about the complaints but we appeal to everybody for understanding because we are only following the rules of the IATF and the PNP. If we do not follow then they see us do this, then they will have to close the facility again.)
“Social distancing gihapon diha sa sulod. Pwede ra isaka ang face shield kung mopahuway lang ta kadali sa daplin. Magsinabtanay lang sa ta,” he said.
(We should follow social distancing. The face shield can be lifted off your face if you are resting at the sides. We will just have understand each other.)
Aside from wearing a face shield, everyone must exit the facility once they are done with their session and maintain one (1) meter distance the entire time.
One entrance, one exit
There will be one entrance and one exit in CCSC. The entrance will be at the R.R Landon gate, and the exit is at the P. Del Rosario St.
Only 200 individuals are allowed to use the oval at a time.
They will designate the spacious grandstand area as the waiting area for those next in turn to use the oval.
He assured that their waiting area would follow social distancing. Bontuyan also added that they would also be asking for the PNP’s assistance to make sure the rules would be strictly followed inside.
Bontuyan also noted that only the oval would be open on May 3.
Other facilities in CCSC such as the boxing gym, fitness center, swimming pool and others will re-open soon.
The entrance fee in CCSC’s oval remains the same at P15 from 5 a.m. to noon and P20 from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m.
On CCSC reopening
Bontuyan also said that the reopening of the CCSC would be a best start to get back on their feet after the struggles that the management had through in 2020.
He said that it was a way to recover from the financial losses brought about by the pandemic.
“Since last year, after nag MGCQ na ta, ganahan na unta kaayo mi mag open. Aside sa mga empleyado namo nga wala na jud panginabuhi, daghan sad coaches ug personal trainers nga nagpakabuhi sa CCSC nga nawad-an ug income. Maong at least man pud makatabang nami nila puhon ug makatabang sad mi naa na balik income ang CCSC,” he added.
(Since last year, after we are already at MGCQ, we wanted very much to reopen. Aside from our employees, who have no work, many of the coaches and personal trainers, who have made their living at the CCSC, also lost their means of income. That is why at least we can help them in the future and have their means of income back.)
“Malipay ko naa na sila balik sa center. Gaan kaayo sa paminaw ma open siya. Bati kaayo mahuman akong term diha sa center nga wala jud mi naka open ug balik. For my remaining years, makita pud unta nako nga ma improve pag balik ang center ug naa ko makita nga nindot para sa center bisan naa ang pandemic.”
(We are happy that they are back at the center. It is so heartening to hear that it is already open. It is not good to end our term at the center and it has not reopened yet. For my remaining years, I hope that I can see improvement in the center and to see something good at the center despite the pandemic.)
CCSC pool
He said that it would take time for them to repair and maintain all of the facilities of CCSC, especially the swimming pool area.
They are targeting June or July to re-open the CCSC pool with the hopes of gathering enough income from the oval’s re-opening to sustain the expenses of the pool.
Bontuyan revealed that the standard-sized pool in CCSC would require more or less P60,000 for its monthly maintenance. The expenses already cover the manpower, chemicals, electricity, and other operating expenses.
