Students in Lapu-Lapu City stood along the roads, waved flaglets and cheered for the triathletes.
Angelica Navarro, 13, said they were asked to meet in school at 5 a.m. before the roads were closed. She and her classmates wore their Music, Arts, Physical Education, and Health (MAPEH) shirt and will get additional 50 points in MAPEH subject as incentive for attending the event.
“Seeing our favorite celebrities and receiving free snacks also motivated us to attend this event,” Navarro narrated happily.
Sheena Preglo, 17, said student cheerers do not only inspire the athletes to finish the race but also serve as a cordon to protect the watching civilians and prevent accidents.
“It is indeed hard to stand here but we just take it positively as a quality time for us to jam with our friends,” said Preglo. /USJ-R Interns Mayfair Dela Cerna
