No drugs found in CPDRC but stoves, weapons seized
NO illegal drugs were found during Sunday’s surprise inspection of the Cebu provincial jail.
“But we are not discounting the possibility of drugs inside the facility,” said David Mark Maramba, chief of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA-7).
They did find other contraband like improvised stoves, heaters and some improvised weapons in some of the jail cells. he told reporters yesterday.
The jail management asked PDEA-7 to conduct a “greyhound operation” after some guards of the province-run jail recovered illegal drug paraphernalia inside one of the detainee’s cells on Saturday.
Visiting time
The detainee, Jino Pilapil, was tagged by a woman who was arrested last week in Liloan town as the source of her illegal substance.
One K-9 dog and a team of agents conducted the inspection with jail guards from CPDRC.
“We timed the operations with visiting hours so that we can also inspect the visitors coming in and out of the CPDRC,” he said.
Earlier, five jail guards of the CPDRC were suspected of engaging in drug trafficking inside the correctional facility.
Provincial Jail warden Romeo Manansala said they will be subjected to drug tests.
The five guards were identified by fellow jail personnel on the day the drugs and paraphernalia were found in the possession of one of the inmates.
Maramba said they still have to look deeper into the incident.
