CEBU CITY, Philippines — Due to incessant demand from the local cycling community, the Bosco Ciclismo 2021 Virtual Bike Challenge will return for its second season from September 1 to 30.

The organizers, the Bosco Ciclismo, a bike group comprised of members of the Don Bosco Cebu Alumni Association (DBCAI) successfully staged the first season that ran from June 1 to 30.

It gathered a total of 224 cyclists who competed in five distances, the 500-kilometer, 400k, 300k, 200k, and 100k.

It may look daunting, but the majority of the participants were able to complete their chosen categories since they had a month to cover the entire distance.

In the first season, the organizers were able to raise enough funds that were donated to the Don Bosco Boys Home in Liloan town, north Cebu.

The official turnover of the donated proceeds was last July 4. These were used to supply Don Bosco Boys Home’s needs such as food and other essentials.

The vocational education training center which also shelters less fortunate youth experienced difficulties in sustaining its charitable program after fewer donations arrived since last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Bro. Louie Domasian, SDB, the SDB Program Director of the Magone Home Aftercare Program received the donated proceeds during the turnover.

For the second season, participants will face a more daunting challenge as the organizers added a new category which they called the “elevation challenge”.

The category features three elevations that participants can choose to join. These are; 3,000-meters, 5,000m and 10,000m elevations.

The other category, the “distance challenge” features three distances, the 300-kilometer, 500k, and 1,000k.

Participants need to complete their chosen elevation or distance category within the given period which is from September 1 to 30.

Registration kicked off last August 1 but is still ongoing. For more information, check out the Bosco Ciclismo Facebook page or contact Aljoen Baroro at 09976090046.    /rcg
