Trash-talking Casimero shows soft side, distributes goods to needy townmates
Three-division boxing champion John Riel Casimero loads sacks of rice and other goods to be distributed to his needy townmates in Merida, Leyte on Tuesday, September 28.
CEBU CITY, Philippines — John Riel “Quadro Alas” Casimero has been known on social media as a tough-talking, foul-mouthed, flamboyant boxer.
The three-division world champion proved on Tuesday, September 28, that he too has a soft and charitable side when the reigning World Boxing Organization (WBO) world bantamweight champion posted on his YouTube channel a video where he is shown buying and packing up canned goods and rice for distribution to his needy townmates in Merida, Leyte.
The goods were later distributed as Casimero’s way of thanking them for supporting him in his boxing career.
Although the exact amount that the Cebu-based, Leyte warrior received during his successful title defense versus Cuban Guillermo Rigondeaux on Aug. 14 was not revealed, boxing’s only eight-division champion and senator Manny Pacquiao said he gave Casimero a $5,000 bonus.
The 32-year old Casimero (31-4,21KOs) has been a hot topic on social media for the past month for challenging two of the best boxers in his division, WBC world bantamweight king Nonito Donaire and WBA/IBF world bantamweight champion Naoya Inoue with truckloads of insults and trash talks directed against Donaire.

“Dito na po yung ipamimigay natin kung sino man yung madadaanan natin at sino yung nangangailangan talaga. Maraming salamat sa lahat ng mga sumusuporta sa akin,” said Casimero in his video.
Casimero recently reconciled with Donaire in a virtual face-off interview ending their rift on social media.
The WBO ordered Casimero to defend his title versus mandatory challenger, Paul Butler (33-2,15KOs) of England.
