Residents in three sitios in barangay Guadalupe in Cebu City are appealing to the city government not to stop the operation of water suppliers pending results of water tests since they have no other source of water.

“Nihangyo ang mga residente nga dili lang sa pasirad-an ang mga suppliers kay wala na silay magamit pang-flush sa CR ug pangkaligo,” said barangay councilor Apol Ross Enriquez.

(The residents requested us not to close the suppliers since they don’t have water to use for flushing toilets and taking baths)

She said representatives from the regional office of the Department of Health (DOH-7) visited the area yesterday morning and distributed Aquatabs or water purification tablets to residents.

Enriquez said one tablet can be used to disinfect 20 liters of water and make it safe for drinking.

Sanitary inspectors from the City Health Department also gave away chlorine granules which residents can also use to disinfect water.

City Health Officer Dr. Daisy Villa also called on affected residents to boil water for at least 30 minutes before storing for drinking.

Since last week, several residents were rushed to hospitals because of fever and diarrhea.

Health officials are suspecting the cases to be typhoid fever although they still have to confirm the cases.

Samples were taken from at least five water sources in the three sitios of Lumbani, Tugasan and Sandayong for testing.
