One dead, 10 hurt after multicab slams into minibus in Naga highway

A 16-year-old girl died while 10 others were injured after a multicab collided with a mini-bus yesterday afternoon in barangay South Poblacion, national highway, City of Naga, southern Cebu.

Charlotte Mirafuentes died of  injuries after the multicab driven by Jerry Quilaton slammed into a Skipper minibus driven by Edgar Lapid around 4 p.m.

P01 John Mark Bongo of the Naga City Police said Quilaton swerved on the opposite lane as he tried to evade a trisikad on the highway. The multicab heading for Cebu City collided head on with the minibus heading to southern Cebu.

Quilaton and the 10 passengers including Mirafuentes were brought to the  South General Hospital for treatment. Mirafuentes however died in the hospital, said Bongo.

The others injured are Rejie Lou Candole, 16; Catherine Monique Quilaton, 18; Aurora Osorio, 56; Owen Osorio, 18; Russel Anova, 16; Nionida Quilaton, 56; Emily Caballero, 46, Gilbert Rosacena,15, and Parcillana Guagpao.

Police said the victims were from Dalaguete town and on their way to Cebu City to attend a birthday party when the accident happened.

No one was hurt in the minibus, but the driver, Lapid was detained by the police.
