A man who was accused of robbing passengers of a Pit-os bound passenger jeep was mauled by habal-habal (motorcycle taxi) drivers and bystanders Wednesday evening after they heard the victims shouting for help.

The suspected holdup man, Ernesto Balven, 51, was forced to ask the help of barangay tanods to stop the attacking mob from inflicting further harm. Balven suffered bruises in the face and a cut in the forehead.

According to P01 Charlito Tinoy, desk officer of Talamban Police Station, Balven allegedly took a 62C route jeepney and declared a holdup at a gasoline station in barangay Pit-os.

But the two passengers, Richie Lobitaña, 39, and Milagros Famador, 66, managed to shout for help, alerting the habal-habal drivers as well as bystanders.

Balven was charged with attempted robbery before the prosecutor’s office.
