DONAYRE

Vaughn “The Spawn” Donayre’s bid for redemption hit a solid wall in the form of Malaysian MMA star Peter Davis who beat the Cebuano via first round TKO Friday night in the co-main event of One Fighting Championships 21: Roar of Tigers  in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

It was Donayre’s third loss in his professional MMA career with seven wins in hand. His loss however, drew criticisms after the referee allegedly stopped the bout prematurely in the dying seconds of the opening round.

With 15 seconds left in the round, Donayre was mounted by Davis who pounded him with elbow strikes and punches. Donayre kept up his guard and covered his face, just waiting for the bell to ring. The referee however, stopped the bout to prevent more damage on the Cebuano cage fighter.

“The referee should have given me that 10 seconds left in the first round and go round two. It would have been very interesting,” Donayre said in a post on his Facebook wall.

Donayre was gaining momentum in the early minutes of the bout by connecting clean counter attacks. Davis tried to go inside and connected some kicks but the Donayre countered with effective straights. Davis was able to take down Donayre but the latter quickly switched position and even managed to land some punches.

Davis now has nine wins with three losses.

Donayre suffered a broken nose from a vicious kick by Davis when the Filipino tried to gain control on the ground. Donayre’s OneFC debut last August also ended in a first round loss via armbar submission to Dubai, UAE’s Mohammed Walid.
