CEBU CITY, Philippines — The Bureau of Customs -Port of Cebu (BOC-Port of Cebu) will soon be ISO-certified after it has satisfied the standard requirements for ISO certification with minor nonconformities and opportunities for improvement.

In a statement it posted on social media on Monday, June 20, 2022, the BOC District Port of Cebu said it passed the three-day Final External Audit, which culminated last Friday, June 17, and was recommended for ISO 9001:2015 Certification.

It makes the Port of Cebu, Collection District VII, the first Customs collection district to have its main port and all sub-ports ISO-certified.

The Subports of Dumaguete and Mactan were previously conferred the same certification last 2020 and 2021, respectively.

According to the ISO website, the ISO 9001:2015 specifies requirements for a quality management system when an organization: a) needs to demonstrate its ability to consistently provide products and services that meet customer and applicable statutory and regulatory requirements, and b) aims to enhance customer satisfaction through the effective application of the system, including processes for improvement of the system and the assurance of conformity to customer and applicable statutory and regulatory requirements.

BOC-Port of Cebu District Collector Charlito Martin Mendoza, in the same statement, dedicated these developments to the officials and employees of the BOC-Port of Cebu.

“The grit and determination of all the men and women of the Port were behind all these accomplishments. They are the driving force that made us breeze through all the rigorous audits,” he said.

“From the beginning, I have always been confident that our people will exemplify a motivated and synergetic workforce committed to the Port’s strong customer focus, and continuous improvement of our services—showcasing the tenets of consistent quality management,” he added.

The Bureau said that during the closing conference last June 17, auditors Adorable Aguila and Reyshell Alonso of TUV SUD Philippines announced that the District Port met the standard requirements for ISO Certification with minor nonconformities and opportunities for improvement.

It also said that the implementation of quality management system through ISO Certification is among the top priority programs under the leadership of Commissioner Guerrero to modernize customs services that meet international standards.
