CEBU CITY, Philippines — Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama has directed the administrator of the Cebu City Medical Center (CCMC) to make sure that all of the hospital workers receive COVID-19 booster shots.

In a statement released by the Cebu City Public Information Office (PIO), Rama was quoted saying that those who already received their first booster shot should also get their second dose.

Rama issued his reminder addressed to Dr. Anton Oliver Reposar II, CCMC’s medical director, after the Department of Health in Central Visayas (DOH-7) released a memorandum last July 26 to direct heads of different health facilities in the region to make sure that all of their workers get their booster shots not later than Sept. 30, 2022.

The Cebu City government maintains and operates CCMC.

Dr. Jaime Bernadas, the DOH-7 director, issued the memorandum after a report showed that only 67.1 percent or 88,566 of 131,989 registered hospital workers in the region are now fully vaccinated and already received COVID-19 booster shots.

The DOH-7 report also showed that as of July 24, only 9,292 hospital workers received their second booster shot.

DOH has already allowed the administration of second booster shot to frontline health workers and senior citizens.

Meanwhile, the Cebu City Health Department (CHD) has already started to administer the second dose of COVID-19 booster shots on Thursday, July 28, to individuals who are 50-years-old and above and those aged between 18 to 49-years-old and listed with comorbidities.

“I call on our citizens who got their first booster shot at least four months ago to avail of this and take advantage of the opportunity for added opportunity,” Rama said.

Dr. Jeffrey Ibones, the acting City Health officer, said vaccination centers at Ayala Center Cebu, Robinson’s Galleria, SM City, and SM Seaside now offer second booster shots.
